Advance Materials for Sustainable Offshore Energy

This “Technical Session” on Advanced Materials for Sustainable Future Offshore Technologies is devoted to the development of new materials for a sustainable pathway, to reduce CO2 emissions, explore new energy conversion and storage methods, and enforce the adoption of 3D printing for metals as a direct manufacturing process, thus enabling a cost- and resource-efficient production. This session also covers developing liquid-state materials for realizing cybernetic subsystem components, including logic, locomotion, and sensing. Replacing conventional dense materials with lightweight alloys or composites with a higher strength-to-weight ratio and enhanced functional properties can reduce vehicle emissions. Additionally, utilizing advanced nanomaterials in lubricants/coolants will improve engine efficiency, thus reducing pollution and lowering fuel consumption. Developing composites with end-of-life products/industrial waste is a better methodology for reducing environmental pollution. Most importantly, utilizing green synthesis procedures for advanced materials development instead of conventional synthesis involving toxic chemicals is also a promising sustainable solution. Hence, developing lightweight materials, using green methods, utilizing waste materials, and applying advanced materials in suitable applications effectively will promote sustainability. Decades of experience drawn from the oil and gas industry and strategic partnerships between pioneers developing advanced materials will play a pivotal role in maturing disruptive technologies and solving challenges associated with sustainability and ESG. Our symposium encompasses papers that discuss and review topics related to advancements in materials for energy while focusing on innovations needed to support and sustain a much-needed energy transition for a better and greener world.
