With CCUS becoming one of the focal points of decarbonization, the need for offshore CO2 compression and sequestration is on the horizon. Offshore compression of CO2 means different operational considerations than onshore CO2 compression. From onshore to offshore point source location, near shore to deep water sequestration, there are many technical challenges required to unlock the immense storage capacity available offshore required to achieve global decarbonization targets. Inline compression has led in offshore CO2 compression deployment, but will integrally geared and reciprocating compression have a role in CCUS offshore? It will require a multifaceted approach much like the onshore deployment of CCUS.
